Meghan Markle brought a special surprise to a group of young Girl Scouts. The Duchess treated campers to an early look at her new documentary. A sunny afternoon at summer camp turned unforgettable for a group of young scouts this week.
The Duchess of Sussex made a heartwarming appearance to share her latest passion project, posing for photos and celebrating a film that hits close to home for her. The visit brought Meghan full circle to her own childhood.
The surprise visit celebrated the upcoming release of ‘Cookie Queens’
According to PEOPLE, Meghan Markle made a special return to Girl Scout camp. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, surprised campers in Ojai, California. It was a screening of her new documentary, Cookie Queens, on Wednesday, July 29. She and director Alysa Nahmias visited Camp Arnaz, less than an hour from her family’s home in Montecito.
The moment was a natural fit for Meghan Markle’s Girl Scout history, since she scouted as a kid under her mom, Doria Ragland, who led her troop. Before the screening, Meghan posed for pictures with campers and some of the scouts featured in the film.
“You never know who might show up for a screening of @cookiequeensfilm!” Nahmias wrote on her Instagram story alongside a group shot at sunset.
Meghan and husband Prince Harry, 41, executive produced the film through Archewell Productions. The Cookie Queens documentary follows a group of Girl Scouts through the competitive rush of their annual cookie-selling season, focusing on four girls: Olive, Nikki, Shannon Elizabeth and Ara.
The project premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and reaches theaters on Aug.7. Meghan has spoken warmly about why it resonated with her. “As a former Girl Scout myself, with my mom as my troop leader, I have a personal affinity for this film,” she said in a March press release. She also has a clear favorite treat from her scouting days, telling PEOPLE that Thin Mints were always the fastest to sell.
