Kash Patel’s defamation case centered on a blogger’s explosive accusations and viral insults
A federal judge has thrown out Kash Patel’s $10 million defamation lawsuit against a blogger who branded him a “Kremlin asset” and an “incompetent chud.” The ruling marks a notable setback for the FBI Director in a case that began well before he took the role.
According to The Daily Beast, Patel filed the suit in 2023, alleging that Substack writer Jim Stewartson had accused him of working for Russia. He was trying to “overthrow the government” and helping organize the January 6 Capitol attack.
Patel, who now serves as FBI Director, filed the blogger lawsuit in a Nevada court, alleging posts falsely accused him of “sedition.” On July 25, Judge Andrew Gordon ruled in Stewartson’s favor. He cited a lack of connection between the writer, the claims, and the state.
In his court ruling, Gordon wrote that tagging Patel, “who happens to be a Nevadan resident, in posts that have nothing to do with Nevada activities or entities does not target a Nevadan audience.” With the chud lawsuit resolved, Stewartson celebrated on X.
The news that the Kash Patel lawsuit was dismissed by the court came amid his other legal action. Patel has also sued The Atlantic and a journalist for $250 million over an article published this year. The Atlantic has filed to dismiss that suit.
