A fresh legal dispute has pulled James Kennedy’s father, Andros Georgiou, back into the spotlight. The longtime friend of the late George Michael now faces a court battle after releasing footage tied to an unreleased album featuring the music icon.
The conflict centered on decades-old recordings that fans could access through a paid website. Georgiou argued he owned the material and insisted George Michael supported the project.
Andros Georgiou allegedly charged fans to view footage from George Michael’s lost album
According to The Sun, George Michael’s estate filed legal action against Georgiou over nearly 90 minutes of unseen footage filmed in 1992 and 1993.
Georgiou launched a website last month, charging fans £4.99 for 48-hour access to Trojan Souls — The Greatest Album That Was Never Made. Fans could also purchase a £19.99 VIP package that promised never-before-heard recordings from the unreleased project.
The planned album reportedly featured artists including Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Bryan Ferry, Seal, and Sade.
Court filings named Georgiou and Tribe Media, the company distributing the film. The claim also listed Robobuild Limited and Big Geoff Overseas Limited, companies George Michael used to manage royalties and world tours.
Georgiou strongly rejected the allegations.
“Yes, we fell out, but we loved and cared for each other deeply,” he said. He called the legal action “a case of sheer greed” and described the claims as “baseless.”
“The film belongs to me. Trojan Souls belongs to me,” Georgiou added. “They’ve opened Pandora’s Box. They won’t want me on the stand. I know way too much. Bring it on.”
He also insisted Michael approved the recordings.
“It is well known Yog and I were working on Trojan Souls through my record label, Hardback Records,” Georgiou said. “The film I have released was shot by me, with Yog’s full approval.”
According to the report, Georgiou filmed the footage with a Sony camcorder during George Michael’s Faith tour in Japan. He later decided to release it after clips repeatedly surfaced online.
The pair remained close for decades before falling out after George Michael’s 1998 arrest in Los Angeles. Despite their estrangement, the report said they had planned to reconcile and spoke by phone during the singer’s final weeks before his death in 2016.
Lawyers representing George Michael’s estate had not publicly commented on the legal dispute at the time of publication.
