TMZ spoke with Boebert on July 22 after she missed the House vote on the fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. She claimed unnamed Republican staffers misled her while she negotiated over a provision involving defense technology cooperation between the United States and Israel.
Boebert said she wanted the provision removed from the bill. According to her account, staffers promised to keep the vote open while negotiations continued. The chamber closed the vote before she could participate, and the NDAA passed 216-212.
The congresswoman also addressed her facial expression during the interview. Boebert said she had received Botox several days earlier and joked that she was “talking out of the side of her mouth like a damn politician.” She added that she could have avoided reporters by using another Capitol entrance but decided to answer questions.
Boebert then returned to her criticism of Republican leadership. She said the party’s “poor leadership” could hurt its future and called for a “come to Jesus” conversation among its members. Her complaint focused on the staffers and leaders she blamed for closing the vote.
The clash adds to Boebert’s recent friction with members of her own party. She previously walked away from an interview after a question about Rep. Thomas Massie. Donald Trump also criticized her for campaigning with Massie, who has challenged the president on several issues.
The Botox remark gave the exchange its most unusual moment, but Boebert’s complaint centered on the NDAA process. She maintained that Republican staffers broke their word and prevented her from registering a vote on the final bill.
The measure now heads to the Senate, where its provisions may change.
