President Donald Trump paid tribute to four American soldiers who died in the ongoing Iran war during a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base. The emotional ceremony was held upon the return of the dead soldiers to the United States. Trump stood with military officials and grieving families during the dignified transfer. The ceremony was held amid growing tensions between the US and Iran.

Trump was accompanied by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth at the ceremony. The president said losing American service members was one of the hardest parts of his job. “For me, it’s one of the hardest things to do as a president. But it has to be done,” Trump said. He also told families that he would say, “we love you” and “we love your child.”
The four soldiers were Sergeant Angel S. Rampersad, 28, Sergeant Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19. Rampersad was from Ozone Park, New York, and Swinton was from North Carolina. Feehan and Gonzales died during an attack on US troops at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Swinton was killed in Iraq during a controlled explosion of a downed Iranian attack drone.
Trump promised retaliation after the deaths and wrote on Truth Social that Iran would face consequences for killing American soldiers. The president also announced plans to attack Iranian infrastructure following attacks against US interests. “Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” Trump wrote. US Central Command also declared airstrikes on Iranian military sites and facilities.
The war has now taken the lives of 18 American troops since it started in February. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that Iran is in “full-scale war” with the US. House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican leaders urged the battle to be resolved swiftly. Trump brushed aside the criticism and responded that Americans would not want Iran to have nuclear weapons.
