Apa discussed the incident during an appearance on Dylan Sprouse‘s Wildmen podcast. The conversation brought up his friendship with the Sprouse twins during their Riverdale years. Apa and Cole starred together on the series for seven long years.

The actor recalled frequently going out with the twins while living in Vancouver. He said the trio sometimes faced confrontations when they went out together. Apa then revealed that one particular night ended with Cole punching him.

“Cole and I would walk into places in Vancouver all the time and get called [names],” Apa said. He then added, “He punched me in the face!” Dylan confirmed being a witness to the incident.

According to Dylan, Apa immediately ran away after the punch. Dylan joked that Apa “ran like an ostrich” following the confrontation. He also recalled trying to chase after his brother’s friend before eventually calling him.

Apa later explained why Cole had reacted so strongly. He said they were at a strip club when Cole learned about his drug use. Apa admitted he was using drugs heavily at that time. His close friends and family were worried for him. “He hit me because we were in a strip club and, at this time, I was doing a lot of drugs,” Apa explained. He described the punch as a “love punch.”

Dylan agreed with that interpretation, calling it a “wake-up punch.” Apa agreed that it was a wake-up call. Dylan later appreciated his brother having Apa by his side while filming Riverdale. He explained that he was worried about Cole living away from home for years. Their friendship ultimately reassured Dylan that his brother was with someone who genuinely cared about him.

Apa has previously been vocal about his sobriety and personal struggles. His latest comments offer another glimpse into the difficult period of his life.
