Claudia Winkleman is stepping back from her own BBC talk show. The Traitors‘ host says nerves got the better of her. Just one season after landing a prime chat show following her runaway reality TV success, the beloved presenter has decided the format simply was not for her. The broadcaster has confirmed the series will not return.
Claudia said nerves prevented her from enjoying the series
Claudia Winkleman earned her own Graham Norton-style talk show after becoming a breakout star through The Traitors UK, the hit reality competition series that cemented her as one of Britain’s most recognizable presenters. However, the talk show proved to be a greater challenge than she expected. On Thursday, she said the pressure prevented her from enjoying the experience.
In a statement, Winkleman thanked everyone who worked on the show. She said she was very grateful to the BBC for the opportunity. Winkleman also thanked the stars who agreed to appear on the show, and to the crew, whom she praised as excellent.
She then explained her decision candidly. “Sometimes you have to try something to see how it fits, and I realized I was just too nervous to enjoy it,” she said. Winkleman added that she might try again one day. For now, she said she already has the best jobs in the world and loves the shows currently filling her schedule.
The Claudia Winkleman Show ran for seven episodes beginning in March, welcoming famous faces including Jeff Goldblum, Ralph Fiennes, and Niall Horan. Its launch sparked considerable interest in the UK, and the premiere attracted an audience of well over one million viewers.
Though the reviews were mixed and ratings varied, BBC entertainment director Ed Havard praised Winkleman’s warmth and wit for making the series a joy. He also confirmed that she will return to the network later this year when Celebrity Traitors premieres.
