The View’s Sunny Hostin Under Fire for Acting as Son’s Attorney in Trespass Case

Sunny Hostin is facing criticism after taking on a legal role in her son’s trespassing case. The View co-host asked prosecutors to dismiss Gabriel Hostin’s citation, describing the incident as an “honest mistake.”

Sunny Hostin is representing her 24-year-old son after Metropolitan Transportation Authority police cited him on June 16 in New Rochelle, New York. Court records state that Gabriel entered the right-of-way of active Metro-North railroad tracks near 24 Station Plaza.

The encounter resulted in a trespassing citation, not an arrest, and Gabriel is due in New Rochelle City Court on July 31. In a letter obtained by TMZ and addressed to Westchester County Assistant District Attorney Amanda Greene, Sunny said Gabriel had been training as a runner when he noticed a gravel incline.

She argued that open gates made the area look accessible and that Gabriel could not see the “No Trespassing” sign from the direction he entered. “He reasonably believed the area was accessible and had no intention of entering private property unlawfully,” Sunny wrote.

Sunny also highlighted Gabriel’s 2025 Harvard graduation, clean record, and athletic background while asking Greene to dismiss the violation “in the interests of justice.” She maintained that continuing the case would create unnecessary consequences for someone who posed no threat to the community.

That argument quickly drew accusations of privilege from online critics who questioned whether Gabriel’s education and family connections should influence the case. The backlash intensified after unnamed sources claimed Sunny referenced her role on The View while speaking with police during the encounter.

Sunny has not publicly confirmed that account, and the claim remains based on unidentified sources. For now, Sunny’s letter presents Gabriel’s actions as an accidental entry into a poorly marked area, while the citation alleges that he entered restricted railroad property.

Prosecutors have not publicly said whether they will grant her dismissal request. The dispute now places Hostin’s legal background and family advocacy under a sharper public spotlight online today.
