King Charles is said to be under increasing pressure from senior royals and aides to keep his distance from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The concerns come amid years of tensions between Harry and the Royal Family over his 2020 departure and public comments about the monarchy.

Speaking on the Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered podcast, royal biographer Tom Bower shared his perspective on the matter. The 79-year-old said, as quoted by RadarOnline, “I think the king right now, his best bet would be to distance himself completely and make it clear to Harry that the Sussexes are not welcome at all in Britain for a very, very long time. And Harry will just have to reflect on how he’s going to reorganize the next few decades of his life.”
Bower, citing the Sussexes’ high-profile disclosures since 2020, from their Oprah interview to their Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir, expressed, “It’s been hugely damaging, and the popularity of the royal family has fallen because of Megan and Harry’s antics.”
He claimed that the narrative surrounding the trip had since “gone sour” for the couple, adding that it was “fascinating” to watch how their actions had led them into what he described as a period of “self-destruct mode.” Bower claimed the Sussexes were seeking a “brand resurrection” but said rebuilding ties with the Royal Family would be difficult without an apology or acknowledgement of past conflicts.
The Duke of Sussex, who stepped down from the working monarchy in 2020 and was stripped of state-funded security in the UK, last met King Charles on September 10, 2025, at Clarence House in London, where they held a private 55-minute conversation, reports The Mirror.
