Mitch McConnell Seen on Stretcher in Newly Released Ambulance Footage

Newly released footage shows Mitch McConnell being taken to an ambulance after an apparent cardiac arrest last month. The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican was found “unconscious” at his Washington, D.C., home on June 14.

The video offers the clearest look yet at the emergency response following McConnell’s June medical incident

Ambulance footage obtained by CNN and recorded by one of McConnell’s neighbors shows emergency responders placing a person believed to be the senator on a stretcher on the morning of June 14. The person’s lower legs appear to be covered by an orange blanket after being placed inside the ambulance, according to CNN.

A neighbor told the outlet they opened their front door around 8:30 a.m. on June 14 to find two ambulances, a fire truck, and Capitol Police officers blocking the street. The neighbor said officers described the incident as a “medical emergency,” but declined to confirm whether it involved McConnell. The person added that another eyewitness identified the individual on the stretcher as McConnell and said he was not wearing an oxygen mask.

When McConnell was hospitalized, McConnell spokesperson David Popp said the senator was taken to the hospital and is “receiving excellent care.” On June 22, Popp said that McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery,” Punchbowl News reported. Since then, no update has been provided on whether the senator remains hospitalized.

McConnell, whose current term is expected to conclude in January 2027, has faced several health concerns in recent years, as per ABC7News. These include a March 2023 fall resulting in a concussion and broken ribs. He also froze mid-sentence during a later news conference, and reports said he had suffered two more falls earlier that year.
