Donald Trump received an extravagant diamond ring from Belgium just days before tensions flared over the United States’ controversial World Cup exit. The lavish gift resurfaced in headlines after Belgium defeated Team USA in a match that sparked debate over FIFA officiating and Trump’s reported involvement behind the scenes.
The custom ring was unveiled during a major America 250 celebration in Brussels, celebrating the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary. Although Trump did not attend in person, he appeared via video as Belgian officials, diplomats, and thousands of guests gathered for the event.
Donald Trump’s lavish Belgium diamond ring gift took on new significance after the USA’s World Cup controversy with Belgium
According to Page Six, the 18-carat gold ring featured 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, six rubies, two diamond “T” emblems, Superman-style “45” and “47” logos, and the Presidential Seal. The outlet reported that Antwerp jeweler David Gotlib created the piece exclusively for Trump and that it was presented by the Antwerp World Diamond Center during the June 28 Freedom 250 celebration.
The event, hosted by U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White, drew roughly 10,000 attendees for a Zac Brown Band concert and featured Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Andrew Puzder, and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, according to Page Six.
Trump thanked organizers in a prerecorded message. According to The Associated Press, he said, “A very special thank you to my friends from Antwerp for the magnificent Freedom 250 ring.”
The Antwerp World Diamond Center said the gift symbolized the long relationship between Belgium and the United States. “May this ring serve as a lasting reminder that true partnership, like the finest natural diamonds, are formed under pressure, endure the test of time, and shine brightest when built on trust,” AWDC president Isidore Mörsel said, according to The Associated Press.
The celebration came shortly before the United States’ controversial World Cup loss to Belgium. Page Six reported that Trump personally called FIFA president Gianni Infantino after U.S. striker Folarin Balogun received a red card, which was later overturned. Belgium still defeated the U.S. 4-1 before posting the pointed message, “Overturn this,” on social media.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever later joked about the victory. According to Page Six, he said the defeat “will hit hard” for Trump, adding the president was known to react “a bit irritably” when things did not go his way.
Questions also surfaced after Belgian media reported possible damage to Brussels’ Cinquantenaire Park following the celebration’s fireworks display. According to Page Six, Ambassador White said organizers immediately worked with local authorities and later confirmed, “The few repairs needed on the rooftop terrace have been completed. The site is spotless.”
