Royal Rift Between Prince Harry and Prince William Addressed by Former Private Secretary

The royal rift between Prince Harry and Prince William remains unresolved, with no sign of reconciliation, following Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2020 departure from royal duties. However, a former private secretary who worked closely with both brothers has offered his opinion on whether the estranged royals can mend their rift, and he expressed optimism.

Prince Harry and Prince William’s feud gets cautious response from Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton served as principal private secretary to Princes William and Harry from 2005 to 2013 and later became a confidant to Kate Middleton after her marriage, reports Sky News Australia. He also served as equerry to the Queen Mother from 1984 to 1986 and received an MBE in 1990 for service in Colombia.

In an interview with The Times, the 65-year-old former SAS officer, who is Prince George’s godfather, discussed the breakdown of the princes’ relationship and comments Harry has made about their family. He said, “Do you know what? I think I’d better steer clear of that Harry issue,” adding, “What I would say is that I was and am very fond of him. He has huge redeeming features, and I’m a perennial optimist.”

He also described differences between the pair, calling William the “Lion King” and Harry a “mischievous cub,” adding, “I loved them both.” Reports suggest William is not interested in reconciling with his estranged brother and has opposed King Charles’ decision to extend an olive branch. Meanwhile, in May 2025, Harry told the BBC that he “would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

The Sussex family, who relocated to the United States in 2020, will be visiting the UK for the first time in four years and are expected to attend the Invictus Games event in Birmingham. Harry has made several trips to the UK since stepping back from royal duties in 2020; however, Meghan’s upcoming visit will be her first since the late Queen’s funeral in 2022, reports The Mirror.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet also visited the UK in 2022 for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, months before her passing. It is believed this was the only time King Charles had met his granddaughter. It is not yet known whether the Sussexes will see King Charles or any other royals during the visit amid ongoing tensions.
