Tom Hardy is said to have been shown the door from the Paramount+ series MobLand after two seasons. The 48-year-old Peaky Blinders star was let go after a clash with executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios, and others.
Tom Hardy was axed from Mobland amid onset strife with EP Jez Butterworth
Tom Hardy played Harry Da Souza on MobLand, written by creator Ronan Bennett and Jez Butterworth. The character was a fixer for a powerful organized crime family. According to Variety, Season 2 wrapped up in March. And as per Puck‘s Matthew Belloni, Hardy will not be appearing in the third season. The newsletter mentioned a significant conflict stemming from the actor’s behavior. It read, “Hardy was apparently late to set a bunch, constantly asked to give notes on scripts, attempted to change dialogue, and expressed his displeasure that a series initially built around him was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase for Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and other co-stars.”
Hardy’s behavior made producer Butterworth nearly quit. That in turn led to Hardy being fired by Paramount.
However, it is not the first time the Oscar-nominated actor has had conflicts on set. He and Charlize Theron had tensions while filming Mad Max: Fury Road. Director George Miller told The Telegraph in 2024 about it. He said, “Tom has damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer.”
Miller also commented on Theron. He said that she was “incredibly disciplined — a dancer by training, which showed in the precision of her performance — and always the first one on set.” Miller added, “I’m an optimist, so I saw their behavior as mirroring their characters, where they had to learn to cooperate in order to ensure mutual survival. There’s no excuse for it, and I think there’s a tendency in this business to use great performances as an excuse for other disruptions that could be avoided.”
