New Persona and NES 3DS XLs Announced as GameStop Exclusives

Ever since The New 3DS became a thing, it seems as if Nintendo wants to clean its standard 3DS XL stock out as quickly as possible. The company probably has closets full of blank XLs just waiting to be turned into awesome exclusive designs for the holiday season, only to be trumped by The New 3DS come 2015. Call me a sucker, but this scheme absolutely works; the latest GameStop exclusive XLs are incredibly awesome, and I pretty much want to buy both.

Revealed at a GameStop event earlier today and subsequently via Nintendo of America’s official Twitter account, two new 3DS XLs are on their way. One is Persona Q-themed, while another draws inspiration form the original NES. The former comes as a bit of a surprise due to the series’ relative obscurity (though its popularity has grown at top speed since Persona 4 Golden hit Vita in 2012), but the latter is, for the most part, nothing new. That said, we all know the powers of nostalgia are far too great to resist, especially when even the box is NES-themed. Yup, they went there.

Combined with the already-announced Super Smash Bros. 3DS XLs also coming soon, Nintendo has an absurdly diverse lineup of XLs to choose from for the holidays. You can expect the Smash variants (not GameStop exclusive) on September 19th, the Persona variant on November 25th, and the NES variant on October 10th. I already know which one I prefer — do you?
