27b/6’s David Thorne Is Working On An HBO Series

David Thorne, Australian writer of blog 27b/6 and the man behind those witty viral email exchanges, is now working on an eight-part TV series for HBO alongside “Arrested Development” writer and consulting producer Jim Vallely.

As reported in Adelaide Now, the comedy show will be named after Thorne’s blog 27b/6 and will be set in a small advertising and design agency. It has been pitched as a cross between “The Office” and “Eastbound & Down”. “I signed a few contracts, sat uncomfortably in on a few meetings, and rewrote scripts written by writers they brought in,” Thorne told the paper.

He also revealed he has been working with Chris Lilley on a one-hour mockumentary “about two individuals who embrace the snowboarding culture to the fullest extent but do not know how to snowboard.” It’s titled Cold Feet: America’s Bunny Slopes and is due for release around September.

Thorne first gained public notoriety in 2008 when an email documenting his attempt to avoid an overdue bill by sending a drawing of a seven legged spider went viral. Another one of Thorne’s funny exchanges that recently popped up again on Facebook is between himself and a neighbour and their battle over the placement of a floodlight.

Thorne said he is also writing his third book, Cubicle Warfare; A Guide to Office Survival, which will be a collection of insider tips and “litigious anecdotes” from his 20 years working in the design industry, though he mentions he has missed the publisher’s deadline twice.
