Foxtel’s Deadline Gallipoli Gets All-Star Cast

Foxtel have announced the star-studded cast for its upcoming World War I mini-series Deadline Gallipoli, which will feature Aussie actor and Avatar star Sam Worthington. The series will air on Foxtel’s Showcase channel in 2015.

Joining Worthington will be “Hannibal”‘s Hugh Dancy, Charles Dance from Game of Thrones, Rachel Griffiths of “Brothers & Sisters”, Jessica De Gouw of “Arrow”, Anna Torv from “Fringe”, “Old School”‘s Bryan Brown, Ewen Leslie (The Railway Man), James Fraser from “Devil’s Playground” and 2013 NIDA graduate Joel Jackson.

John Bell, founder of the Bell Shakespeare company, will also be returning to television for the first time in more than 20 years taking on the role of Lord Kitchener. Production on the series started in South Australia today.

The mini-series, directed by Michael Rymer (of American Horror Story, Battlestar Galactica and Hannibal), takes a look at the Gallipoli phenomenon from the point of view of four war correspondents Charles Bean, Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett, Phillip Schuler and Keith Murdoch.

“This is a fresh take on the Gallipoli story, with these four journalists fighting the upper echelons of the military to get the truth out and stop the carnage,” Worthington said. “I’m honoured to bring such an important story to audiences, in Australia and around the world.”

“Deadline Gallipoli” will air on Foxtel’s Showcase channel next year, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings in Gallipoli.
