Watch: Pearl Jam And Arcade Fire Cover ‘Rockin’ The Free World’

Australia’s Big Day Out music festival wrapped up over the weekend, but not before headliners Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire combined for a handful of insane covers.

Big Day Out fans were treated to a number of Pearl Jam covers during the band’s headline send off in Perth last weekend, the highlight a rendition of Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ The Free World’.

Young’s politically charged single from 1989’s Freedom has become a popular cover choice for Pearl Jam across a number of US dates over the past year, but this version was bolstered by the addition of Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler, who joins Eddie Vedder on stage mid-way through the opening verse in the below clip.

Pearl Jam’s 25-track set a ton of classics plus covers of Australian favourites Hunters & Collectors and their past hit ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ and Victoria Williams’ ‘Crazy Mary’.

The festival’s run around Australia this year didn’t go as smoothly as hugely successful past tours with dwindling audiences and lawsuits possibly threatening the future of the Big Day Out.

Sunday’s visit to Perth wrapped up the six-stop Australia and New Zealand tour with the city receiving what will likely be the festival’s last ever visit, unfortunately attracting a disappointing 19,000 fans.
