Prince William and Prince George recently traveled to Spain to watch a soccer match. Royal commentators believe the outing also gave George another low-pressure introduction to public life.
The trip came as 13-year-old George adjusted to life at Eton, with royal commentators suggesting that such outings could help prepare him for a more prominent public role.

The discussion came during the latest episode of Pod Save the King, around the 20:41 mark. Mirror royal editor Russell Myers questioned whether the Barcelona outing represented “tentative steps” toward George becoming more visible in public.
Deputy royal editor Jennifer Newton agreed that the setting mattered. She described the match as a “gentle way of introducing him to public life” without placing him in a formal royal environment.
William and George traveled to Barcelona on Nov. 3 to watch Aston Villa face FC Barcelona in the Champions League. Aston Villa lost 3-0, but the father-son outing produced a sweet moment in the stands when George rested his head on William’s shoulder.
Newton noted that the trip still placed George in front of a huge crowd and plenty of cameras. However, unlike a royal walkabout, he did not need to shake hands, make speeches or carry out formal duties.
Myers also said he had heard George is a “super bright boy” who already understands his future position. His comments echo another recent report suggesting William has started involving George in more discussions about royal life.
George began boarding at Eton in September. The Spain trip took place during his school break, giving William a chance to combine family time with another public outing.
However, Kensington Palace has not confirmed whether the trip formed part of any official preparation plan. The commentators suggested that a soccer match could offer George a chance to experience public attention without the pressure of formal royal duties, all while enjoying time with his father.
