Legal trouble continues to surround Erik von Detten and his former employer, Rosland Capital. An elderly California couple recently sued the Princess Diaries actor over gold purchases they made through the company. Rosland Capital now has financial problems of its own. New court filings reportedly show that the precious-metals company owes more than $63 million after filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.
Erik von Detten faces a lawsuit as Rosland Capital’s debts mount
According to People, Rosland Capital allegedly owes $63,695,060. The company filed for bankruptcy on July 2. Court documents obtained by the outlet later revealed the reported debt total.
The financial update comes as the Erik von Detten lawsuit continues. Sheila Greenberg, 85, and Norman Greenberg, 97, claim von Detten persuaded them to spend more than $2 million on gold coins. At the time, he worked as an agent for Rosland Capital.
The couple alleges that von Detten presented himself as an expert on precious metals and retirement accounts. They say he offered to guide them through the investment process. Their complaint claims the gold coins had a much lower value than the amount they paid.
Revised Internal-Link Paragraph
The Greenbergs accuse von Detten and Rosland Capital of fraud and elder financial abuse in the lawsuit filed against the former Disney star. A court has not established those allegations as fact.
The couple wants at least $900,000 for its alleged financial losses. They also seek additional damages that a court could determine at trial. According to People, von Detten has not publicly addressed the allegations.
Rosland Capital’s bankruptcy has brought more attention to the dispute. However, the company’s broader financial problems extend beyond the Greenbergs’ individual claims. The bankruptcy proceedings and the couple’s lawsuit also remain separate legal matters.
Von Detten played Josh Bryant in the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries alongside Anne Hathaway. He also voiced Sid in Toy Story. He later stepped away from Hollywood and built a career outside acting.
His work in the precious-metals business largely kept him away from entertainment headlines. The lawsuit has now put the former Disney star back in the public eye.
The latest disclosure about Rosland Capital’s debt adds another financial complication to a case already centered on disputed investment losses.
