Amid the controversy surrounding her dad, Thomas Markle Sr., the British public reportedly does not see Meghan Markle as a “sympathy figure.” According to a new poll, the Sussexes’ popularity has plummeted recently. The widespread criticism of the allegations against the former actress’s father, however, has failed to earn her any sympathy.
Host claims British public doesn’t see Meghan Markle as ‘sympathy figure’ amid dad’s controversy
In a new interview, News24 host Danica De Giorgio revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s popularity has fallen. She asked Kevin O’Sullivan why the British public were not fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The TalkTV presenter explained that allegations against her father do not excuse Markle’s own past behavior and the accusations against the royal family.
“I’m no big fan of Meghan as you probably know but I wouldn’t wish what’s happened to her on anyone,” O’Sullivan said. “I do feel sorry for to find this awful information about her dad but anyway despite the paper saying she should be a sympathy figure. Now the British people do not see her as a sympathy figure. They are still furious with her for sitting down with Oprah Winfrey all those years ago just after they arrived in California.”
He added, “The people of Britain are still in no mood to forgive her for that and they’re certainly in no mood to forgive her for the baseless, outrageous charges, suggestions she made about the royal family. So, all due sympathy for her for what she’s going through with her dad, but it doesn’t strike out her behavior in the past.”
O’Sullivan further claimed that 85% of the British people want Markle and Prince Harry to return back to America. The “Suits” actress’s father is facing child abuse allegations, which he has vehemently denied. Last month, Markle addressed the allegations in a statement in which she said that she was “deeply distressed at the news.”
