SNL’ Host Inde Navarrette Fires Back at Shane Gillis With Gym Joke

The X-Men actress references the comedian’s October monologue

During her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live, Navarrette joked about preparing for her upcoming role as Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men. While discussing her fitness preparations for the role, she referenced Gillis’ controversial October 10 monologue. Gillis faced backlash after making disparaging remarks about women’s gym attire. Navarrette responded with a gym-related punchline that drew laughter from the audience.

“So, every morning, I put on my little whore outfit and hit the gym,” she quipped. The joke appeared to mock Gillis’ earlier comments about how women dress at the gym. Navarrette also made it clear that she has little in common with Nikki, her character in Curry Barker’s horror film Obsession. She also introduced her boyfriend, Nick Aiello, who appeared tied up and gagged in the studio audience as part of the sketch.

Several cast members also joined the Halloween-themed monologue in elaborate costumes. Marcello Hernandez appeared as a sexy TSA agent, while Kam Patterson dressed as Elizabeth Holmes. Jeremy Culhane appeared dressed as Wolverine and jokingly pitched himself for a role in the upcoming X-Men film. Veronika Slowikowska portrayed Kelly Clarkson, while Grace Reiter dressed as the mechanical singing bird involved in Clarkson’s online dispute with a Brooklyn gift shop.

Navarrette also appeared in several sketches throughout the Halloween episode. She portrayed a ghost aboard the Queen Mary alongside Hernandez. She also appeared in a fictional Delta Airlines advertisement featuring a special section for disruptive passengers. She also appeared in The Uninterested Woman Dating Show and played an inventor’s widow who discovers that her late husband created a dangerous robot named PD-44.
