Jalen Brunson is adding a new experience to his résumé after a memorable year with the New York Knicks. The NBA star is making his scripted television debut next week in NBC’s long-running crime drama, Law and Order: SVU.
Brunson’s upcoming appearance has been anticipated since he and Law & Order: SVU lead Mariska Hargitay discussed the possibility earlier this year. A new trailer offers a first look at Brunson in character. Instead of appearing as himself, the NBA star plays a role in the show’s fictional police department.
What to know about Jalen Brunson’s Law & Order: SVU appearance
Peacock released a preview of the upcoming episode, titled “Forsaken,” on Thursday, October 29. Brunson appears as Detective Madison, sharing a brief exchange with Hargitay’s Captain Olivia Benson. When Benson addresses him as “Madison,” he responds with a friendly “Hey, Captain.”
The episode centers on an investigation that starts when a wedding guest is assaulted during the reception. Benson and her team uncover information that changes the course of the case, while Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi faces challenges as witnesses become hesitant to cooperate.
In the trailer, Brunson appears in a brief role but confirms he will appear alongside the show’s established cast. The collaboration has been building for several months. Brunson expressed interest in appearing on the series during a July conversation with Variety, pointing to his friendship with Hargitay and his admiration for the actress. Hargitay also supported the idea, describing the Knicks star as someone capable of taking on the opportunity. The two had already shared the screen in a pre-recorded segment for the 2026 Emmy Awards.
Brunson is coming off a major milestone with New York, having helped the Knicks win their first NBA championship since 1973. The upcoming Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode marks his first scripted acting appearance and is set to air November 5, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
