Royal commentator Carole Malone has weighed in on Meghan Markle’s upcoming appearance on Junior MasterChef Australia. According to Malone, Markle has made a disastrous career move. She also questioned why Markle decided to travel to the other side of the world to participate in a children’s cooking show.
Commentator thinks Meghan Markle made the wrong move with MasterChef gig
Speaking on the Royals Unscripted podcast, Malone suggested that the career move may not give the Duchess of Sussex the boost she is looking for. “She’s making this sound like it is a really big, fabulous gig. No, it isn’t. She’s having to go to the other end of the world, to do a show with a relatively small audience. Co-hosting. Now, where is this going to take her?” Malone said.
The commentator also wondered whether Markle would have done better to continue acting after leaving “Suits”. “Now, had she stayed in Suits, maybe she would have been a big movie star by now, maybe Hollywood would have beckoned,” she said.
Malone continued, “She could’ve made it big, but here she is now, married a prince, married into royalty, a prince from England, and she’s going to the southern hemisphere to make a very small show with children.”
Meghan is expected to film Junior MasterChef Australia in Melbourne in early to mid-2027. She previously appeared as a guest judge on the main MasterChef Australia series during her April visit to the country with Prince Harry.
The Duchess’s recent career move has drawn mixed reactions from Australians. The Express spoke to several Melbourne residents to get their reactions to Markle’s new role.
One resident, Rosa, said, “We have so many Australians that could do that job. I’m not a fan of hers. I think we should get an Australian to do it.”
Another resident, Selby Witteveen, questioned Meghan’s motivations, saying, “Somebody had paid for her to come. She just wants money. She is there only trading on royalty, which she is no longer.”
Despite the criticism, Markle said accepting the opportunity was an “easy yes”.
