Watch John Cena Go Full Tom Cruise & Hang From a Helicopter for Matchbox Stunt

John Cena has never been one to shy away from a challenge, but his latest stunt for Matchbox: The Movie takes his action credentials to new heights, literally. In a new clip, the WWE legend and actor was spotted dangling from a helicopter above Budapest’s iconic Chain Bridge, channeling his inner Tom Cruise in true Mission: Impossible fashion.

Apple TV recently posted a behind-the-scenes video of John Cena zipping across the Chain Bridge in Budapest while hanging from a helicopter. The scene showcases Cena’s commitment to practical action filmmaking, a hallmark of the Mission: Impossible franchise that Cruise has popularized over decades.

Cena is a WWE alum who recently closed the chapter on a legendary career in the ring. But the physical gruilling hasn’t stopped as he opened up about the physically demanding nature of the film.

“Most of the action in this movie pushed me outside of my comfort zone,” Cena admitted in an interview with Lifestyle Asia. The helicopter stunt wasn’t the only extreme moment for the actor. “Running up the chain bridge in Budapest. Hanging from a helicopter and being dipped in the Danube. Hanging off a 350-foot bridge in Slovakia with no one around to hear me scream. Just to name a few,” Cena said.

Moreover, his costar Jessica Biel witnessed the spectacle firsthand. “We watched John do a lot of crazy stuff. I mean, really, it was wild to see. We were in the VW bus, and then up comes the helicopter. We were looking, and there’s somebody hanging. ‘Oh, that’s John. Yeah, that’s John hanging.’ Like, the stuff we witnessed him do was out of control, cool, and terrifying,” Biel recalled.

Directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall, Matchbox: The Movie is based on the toy brand Matchbox by Mattel. It stars John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, and Teyonah Parris. The film is streaming on Apple TV.
