Ariel Winter Reveals Why She Really Wanted Out of Hollywood

Ariel Winter says she would rather live outside Los Angeles and enjoy a quieter life. The Modern Family alum now splits her time between California and Tennessee. While she enjoys the change, leaving her loved ones behind has made the move difficult. She has also found a way to stay close to her longtime friend and former co-star Nolan Gould.

Ariel Winter explains why she prefers Nashville and stays with Nolan Gould in LA

Winter discussed her move while speaking with Page Six about Season 2 of The Sisters Grimm. The actress, 28, said she grew up in Los Angeles but wanted a fresh start. “LA is busy, and I was hoping to just get away a little and see what that change does for me,” she explained. She also wanted to experience different seasons and snow.

Winter bought a $2.9 million home in College Grove, near Nashville, in May 2022. She said the move helped her escape paparazzi and enjoy a more normal routine. “It’s just so peaceful and calm, and normal in a way that LA isn’t,” she said of Nashville. Although she prefers the slower pace, she finds it hard to live far from her family and friends.

“I would prefer to not live in LA,” Winter told Page Six. However, she said her loved ones remain the biggest reason she struggles to leave California behind. “I think that is what I love so much about LA — just that, not LA itself,” she explained. She has some friends in Tennessee, but her family and many close friends still live in Los Angeles.

When Winter returns to California, she stays close to Gould, her former Modern Family co-star. The two actors shared the screen for 11 seasons, from 2009 to 2020, and now share a living space when she visits LA. “That is my brother,” Winter said of Gould. She also called him her best friend and said, “We are family without a doubt,” adding that living together has been “the best experience ever.”
