Kim Kardashian apparently did not expect one part of her new biography to hit quite so hard. While reviewing Jonathan Van Meter’s Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, a chapter about her first serious relationship brought her to tears. The emotional section revisits Kardashian’s teenage romance with TJ Jackson. Reading it reportedly made the reality star look back at her younger self with a newfound sense of compassion.
Kim Kardashian reportedly got emotional reading about her teenage romance with TJ Jackson
Kardashian received chapters of the book before publication so she could check them for factual errors. She took that responsibility seriously, returning pages covered with handwritten notes and corrections, according to Page Six.
But the chapter about Jackson prompted a very different response.
Van Meter said Kardashian became so emotional while reading about the relationship that she stopped reviewing the book for the night. She later told him, “I gave that 13- or 14-year-old girl some grace.”
Jackson, the son of Tito Jackson and nephew of Michael Jackson, dated Kardashian during her teenage years. Their relationship reportedly began when she was 13 and lasted until she was around 17.
The Kim Kardashian biography goes deeper into that period than many accounts of her life. The pair reportedly had their first date at McDonald’s and even discussed getting married at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.
Kardashian continues to remember the relationship fondly. She said in the book that she hopes her daughters eventually experience something similar when they become old enough to date.
The emotional reaction also shows why Kardashian remained closely involved while Van Meter wrote the book. She previously admitted that agreeing to the project made her nervous because she did not control the final product.
Van Meter’s research also uncovered family stories, including Robert Kardashian Sr.’s final advice to Kim.
Not everyone from Kardashian’s past participated as easily. Paris Hilton reportedly canceled her interview 17 times, eventually leading Van Meter to leave her perspective out.
The TJ Jackson chapter had the opposite effect. Instead of challenging the account, Kardashian seemingly recognized herself in it. For her, revisiting that first love became less about correcting history and more about understanding the teenager she once was.
