Mary J. Blige briefly stopped her Las Vegas residency performance after someone in the audience began booing during the show.
The singer addressed the disruption from the stage at MGM Resorts’ Dolby Live Theater on Wednesday night before returning to her performance. Footage of the exchange later surfaced through TMZ.
Mary J. Blige stopped her Las Vegas show to confront someone booing in the crowd
According to an eyewitness, Blige had reached roughly the halfway point of her two-hour concert when the incident happened.
She stood at a microphone between songs when someone in the audience began booing loudly enough for her to hear.
Blige responded and addressed the person from the stage.
“To the bitch that’s booing, you didn’t have to come here,” she told the crowd.
She then asked for the person to leave, adding, “I hope someone sees you and politely removes you.”
The Mary J. Blige Vegas show confrontation continued as Blige questioned why the person had spent money on a ticket only to boo during the performance.
“The f*** are you spending your money for — idiot!” she said.
After addressing the booing fan, Blige apologized and resumed her set.
The brief interruption did not derail the rest of the concert. Around 20 minutes later, Blige welcomed Wyclef Jean to the stage as a special guest.
The pair performed his song “911” together before the show continued.
The supplied reports did not confirm whether venue staff actually removed the audience member Blige addressed. They also did not explain what prompted the booing or whether the fan responded after the singer confronted them.
TMZ said it contacted Blige for comment following the incident but had not received a response at the time of publication.
Blige returned to her performance after addressing the audience member, and the concert continued with Wyclef Jean joining her onstage later in the set.
