A member of Stephen King‘s family has joined the team working on It: Welcome to Derry Season 2. Notably, the HBO series is based on It, King’s 1986 novel. It is a prequel to the 2017 movie It and 2019’s It Chapter Two.
Ethan King joins the writing team for It: Welcome to Derry Season 2
Ethan King, the grandson of the celebrated author, has joined the writing team for Season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane confirmed the news during a recent interview with Radio Times.
“King’s grandson Ethan is writing for Season 2,” Kane said, adding, “He’s brilliant and really smart. He’s a chip off the old block. You can see why the Kings are how they are. It’s definitely passed down genetically through generations.”
Further, ScreenRant reports that Ethan King doesn’t have any previously published writing credits. This effectively makes It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 his debut as a writer. As many Stephen King fans know, several members of the King family have already followed in the legendary author’s footsteps into the world of writing. For instance, his son and Ethan’s father, known by his pen name Joe Hill, has written several prominent comic books and novels under the pen name Joe Hill, including Locke & Key, which Netflix adapted as a TV series.
Andy Muschietti, the director of the above-mentioned movies, developed Welcome to Derry with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Additionally, Fuchs served as the showrunner with Kane in Season 1. Kane became the sole showrunner in Season 2. The inaugural chapter, which came out in October 2025, takes place in the 1960s.
However, the sophomore season will go back even further, with a narrative set during the Great Depression in 1935. It will focus on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a bank-robbing group that finds itself in Derry. Its members soon become victims of the unimaginable horror that resides there.
It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 currently doesn’t have a release date.
