Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Reviews Are Saying the Same Things

Early reviews of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 agree on two points: Michael C. Hall remains magnetic, and Dexter’s midlife crisis is the season’s biggest gamble. Critics have seen only two episodes ahead of the Friday, October 30 premiere.

Writers at CBR, IGN, ScreenRant and The Holo Files each singled out Dexter’s age as the defining storyline. Opinions split on how well it works, but nobody doubts that Hall carries it. ScreenRant notes that Hall “hasn’t lost a step even as Dexter himself is beginning to slow down,” calling the episodes “just as thrilling as the first season.” The Holo Files agrees, crediting “the undeniable charisma of Michael C. Hall” for keeping the story compelling.

The midlife crisis theme draws more mixed reactions. CBR warns the framing “runs the risk of depicting Dexter as incapable rather than unstoppable,” though it acknowledges the season could pivot successfully by forcing Dexter to work with others. IGN sees potential if the show handles his restlessness differently than past self-reflection arcs, but cautions that “the story stumbles when Dexter doesn’t learn from his mistakes.”

The Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 reviews also point to serious supporting threats. Dan Stevens and Brian Cox join as new killers, while Krysten Ritter returns as Lady Vengeance and Uma Thurman reprises Charley. CBR predicts “huge potential for the rest of the season to build greater suspense.”

Hall himself told ComingSoon that that Dexter’s “appetite for recognition” drives this season’s evolution, describing the character as always “at his best when two oppositional things are in the air at once.”

Taken together, the reviews suggest a season that leans on its lead’s proven appeal while testing whether a vulnerable, aging Dexter can still command attention. Critics agree Hall delivers; the debate centers on whether the midlife crisis enriches or undermines the formula.
