Netflix has responded to reports of a creative dispute involving Jennifer Lopez and filmmaker Robert Zemeckis over its upcoming film. Lopez is reportedly clashing with Zemeckis over the final cut, with insiders comparing the alleged tensions to the It Ends With Us feud.
The Last Mrs. Parrish is an upcoming Netflix psychological thriller. The reports come from Page Six, which cited several unnamed sources alleging Lopez had taken a heavy hand in the film’s editing room. The streamer, Lopez, and Zemeckis later issued a joint statement addressing the allegations.
“As we have said to Page Six, this reporting is categorically false. Any suggestion that the filmmakers are not working in unison is without merit,” the statement read. The outlet further reported that Lopez and Zemeckis worked on the film’s edit together last week. The two are reportedly expected to meet next week to discuss the project’s next steps.
What is Jennifer Lopez and Robert Zemeckis’ new movie about?
The film adapts Liv Constantine’s 2017 bestselling debut novel of the same name. Produced on a reported budget of $100 million, it follows Amber Patterson, a cunning con artist who targets wealthy couple Daphne and Jackson Parrish as her next victims.
The con artist attempts to enter their lives by befriending the wife, Daphne, and seducing her husband, Jackson. Her ultimate goal is to take Daphne’s place as the next Mrs. Parrish. However, Amber soon discovers that the woman she intends to deceive has a more complicated life than she expected.
Lopez plays Daphne, while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau portrays her husband, Jackson. Isabel May plays Amber Patterson in the adaptation. Pierson Fodé, Debi Mazar, Denis O’Hare, and Frank Harts also appear in the film.
Zemeckis directs the adaptation, with Andrea Berloff and John Gatins adapting the story for the screen. Lopez also serves as a producer.
The film could arrive sometime in 2027, according to reports, although Netflix has yet to announce an official release date.
