Donald Trump’s Former White House Aide Avoids Indictment in New Legal Twist — Source

Donald Trump‘s former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson reportedly avoids indictment over her testimony to a congressional panel. The decision came amid the Justice Department’s investigation into whether Hutchinson gave false testimony.

Grand jury rejects indictment of former Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson over January 6 testimony

The grand jury “no bill” decision means it declined to approve the proposed indictment. The investigation focused on Hutchinson’s testimony to a congressional panel about the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by Trump’s supporters.

According to Reuters, a source confirmed the jury met on Tuesday and was considering the evidence in the probe, but did not know the decision. A former prosecutor separately told US Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui in court that the federal jury rejected an indictment but did not share the proposed defendant or charges.

The Justice Department has been investigating Cassidy Hutchinson over whether she gave false testimony for the probe. However, she maintained her stance on her testimony.

Weeks after Trump falsely claimed he had won the 2020 elections, his supporters marched to the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to stop congressional certification of elections. However, the attack failed to stop Congress, and many people were subsequently charged with crimes. Trump pardoned almost everyone who faced charges on his first day of his second presidency term in 2025.

Hutchinson’s case was handled by the Civil Rights Division headed by Trump appointee Harmeet Dhillon. She made several claims regarding Trump’s behavior in the days up to January 6, 2021. Hutchinson testified that Trump urged the removal of metal detectors. She quoted Trump’s words at the time of the incidents, saying, “not here to hurt me” and “I don’t f—ing care that they have weapons.” (via NBC News)

Her testimony also included accounts of Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, his response to supporters, and Trump’s alleged attempt to reach Capitol. The grand jury reportedly heard the evidence in early October, but did not secure an indictment despite investigation into her testimony.
