Jennifer Lopez Reveals the Heartbreak Behind Her Latest Career Move

Jennifer Lopez is turning a major personal change into creative inspiration. The singer has been adjusting to an empty nest after her 18-year-old twins left home for college. Now, those emotions are finding their way into Lopez’s new music. The transition comes after a turbulent few years that also included the end of her marriage to Ben Affleck.

Jennifer Lopez turned empty-nest emotions into new music

Lopez has channeled the feelings surrounding her children leaving home into her latest musical chapter, including the new song “Proof of Love,” according to Variety.

The singer shares twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Their departure for college has clearly hit her hard.

Earlier this year, Lopez admitted that the milestone felt especially emotional because “it’s been the three of us.” She explained that people had “come in and out” of her life while her children remained a constant.

Once college actually arrived, the emotions became even more real. Lopez later said she expected to spend time “crying” and looking at baby pictures while adjusting to a quieter house.

That transition also carries extra weight because Lopez has spoken about how much of the twins’ upbringing fell on her. She previously revealed that she had “very little help” while raising them after her separation from Anthony.

Music has often given Lopez a place to process major changes. Her 2024 album This Is Me… Now drew heavily from her rekindled romance with Affleck. Their marriage later ended, and Lopez has since said that heartbreak taught her more than success.

She has also described her divorce from Affleck as a turning point. Lopez said she eventually had to stop and confront what had happened rather than bury herself in work.

This time, however, the heartbreak behind the music is different. Lopez is not mourning another romance. She is learning how to let her children build lives of their own while figuring out what comes next for hers.
