Liev Schreiber has apologized for his recent red carpet outburst. The X-Men star went viral after scolding a reporter at the New York City premiere of his new series, Nocturne.
Schreiber appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Monday, where he addressed the incident and apologized for his harsh remarks toward the reporter.
“My mother called me this morning, and my mother follows my career via the internet, unfortunately… the first words out of her mouth when I answered the phone were, ‘So what did you do?’” Schreiber recalled. “As if I were in this kind of trouble all the time. But the truth is, yeah, mea culpa, I had a moment.”
The Ray Donovan star then recalled the moment he snapped at the reporter. “I’m on the press line for Nocturne, and I might not be the best person on the press line that ever was on a press line,” the actor said. “And I walk up to this lovely, charming woman and she says to me: ‘Describe the show in three words to a best friend quickly.’”
Schreiber explained that he’s “at that age now” where he doesn’t do things terribly quickly. He added that “the redundancy of ‘three words’ and ‘quickly’ completely stumped me,” which prompted the harsh response.
“I went off on some terrible tirade about monkeys and profanity, and I apologize,” Schreiber stated.
What else did Liev Schreiber say about the viral red carpet moment?
Later in the conversation, Schreiber revealed that he smoothed things over with the reporter before the evening wrapped up.
“It went totally fine,” the actor shared. “I said something about, like, ‘What kind of question is that?’ And then I started swearing about monkeys and stuff. And then I said, ‘Is there anything about this show that interests you?’ And she said, ‘I love the genre.’ And I said, ‘Okay, let’s talk about that.’ And then we started to have a really great conversation.”
The X-Men star later quipped that he plans to practice giving three-word answers in order to avoid any future awkward moments.
Schreiber’s Nocturne premieres on Apple TV on October 30, 2026.
