Parker Posey and Craig Melvin had another awkward moment on the Today Show on Monday. The moment came after Posey misunderstood Melvin’s pronunciation of “horror.”
Speaking with Melvin on the Today Show, the host said that they needed to discuss “horror” before she left. Posey looked confused and leaned in to hear him again. When Melvin repeated the word, the White Lotus star laughed and said, “I thought you called me a wh—.” The host quickly clarified, “I did not call you a wh—! H-O-R-R-O-R.” Melvin then apologized for not enunciating clearly.
As the host continued the interview by asking about her upcoming horror film Sleepover, the 57-year-old actress confirmed she was no longer part of the project. “No. I’m not doing it anymore,” she explained. When Melvin checked his cue cards, Posey confirmed she had previously been attached to the project. “It’s not happening anymore. Something came up,” she added.
Craig Melvin and Parker Posey have a history of awkward on-air exchanges
This was not the pair’s first viral moment. Posey appeared on Today in March 2025 to talk about her role as Victoria Ratliff in HBO’s White Lotus Season 3. Melvin burst out laughing as she showed off her Southern accent, as she does in the series.
Posey rattled off some of her favorite words and phrases to say in character, including “Piper, no!” and “tsunami,” before trying “Buddhism.” Melvin, a South Carolina native, couldn’t hold his laughter. Crew members could be heard giggling off camera.
The video quickly went viral. During Monday’s interview, Melvin replayed the clip for the Lost in Space star. She said she loved it and noted that people even made T-shirts out of it.
Parker Posey’s reality competition series The Mob premiered on Hulu on October 26. She will next appear in Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2026.
