Donald Trump was holding a rally in Georgia when he remarked that high oil and gas prices were helping the U.S. economy.

In a clip posted on X, he said, “The United States oil and gas business is making hundreds of billions of dollars. But my people said, ‘Please don’t mention that, sir.’ Because people are paying a little higher.”

He further stated that his advisors told him not to talk about the supposed benefits of the high prices. Trump added, “‘President Trump is talking about all the money they’re making while people are suffering at the pump.’ That’ll be the headline. But I said, ‘I don’t give a damn, I’m going to say it. We’re making a freaking fortune. Our country is getting stronger and stronger all the time.'”

Trump also claimed that current oil and gas prices are lower than those during the administration of Joe Biden. According to an AP News report, gas prices have risen significantly since the war between Iran and the U.S. began. The outlet reported that regular gasoline is currently $4.29 per gallon, up from $2.98 before the conflict. Moreover, diesel is at $6.35 per gallon.

Democrat and political strategist David Axelrod also commented on Trump’s remarks in a post on X. He wrote, “Give @POTUS credit for leveling with the American people. HE’s making money like he’s never made before. And he doesn’t give a damn about high gas prices. (Not a great closing message, though.)”
