Kanye West needs no introduction in the music world, and the rapper has recently been making headlines for his high-grossing comeback performances. However, amid his return to the stage, West is also facing accusations that continue to follow him. Now, the rapper has responded to claims that his concerts are engaging in “Heartless” rage bait.
Ye says the Jakarta crowd was loud and the performance was a vibe
On Saturday, October 24, American rapper Kanye West performed his first-ever solo concert in Jakarta, Indonesia. Reflecting on the show, West said the Jakarta crowd was loud and described the performance as a vibe.
The Bully star performed nearly 30 songs, but one moment particularly frustrated some fans. During “Heartless,” Kanye repeatedly stopped and restarted the song’s intro to teach the crowd how he wanted them to sing along. The moment left some concertgoers annoyed.
As per The Mirror coverage, some social media users accused Kanye West of engaging in rage bait. One person, for instance, posted a video on TikTok with large text that read, “Seconds before Kanye threw a tantrum and leave [sic] cuz the crowd wasn’t loud enough.”
In the viral clip, the 49-year-old rapper interrupts the crowd and urges them to sing along the way he wants. Now, addressing the incident and the accusations circulating on social media, the songwriter has defended himself, saying, “Bro, this s**t was a vibe. The crowd was very loud. It’s called rock and roll.”
For context, the performance drew a packed stadium crowd estimated at between 50,000 and more than 77,000 fans. The audience reportedly included around 20,000 international travelers who flew in specifically for the Southeast Asian stop. The concert also featured Kanye West’s signature 360-degree “Globe Stage,” a massive, dome-shaped rotating structure displaying an image of the rotating Earth, surrounded by an elaborate display of lasers and pyrotechnics.
