Donald Trump’s niece Mary Trump described his relationship with daughter Ivanka Trump as “odd and off-putting.” She claimed Trump showed little emotional interest in his children but had an unusual attachment to Ivanka as she grew older.

Mary Trump appeared on The Rest Is Politics podcast, where she discussed Donald Trump’s relationship with his children.
“He was an entirely hands-off father. He had no real interest in his children,” she said. Mary then claimed his relationship with Ivanka seemed different as she grew older.
“Uh, when Ivanka got older, he had this very odd attachment to her,” she said.
Mary described the dynamic as a “weird fixation” and said she found it difficult to explain.
“Like, she was constantly sitting on his lap. And I don’t know. I can’t really explain it, but I found it odd and off-putting,” she said.
She also claimed Trump lacked a strong emotional connection with his other children.
“But he didn’t have any real emotional connection. Certainly not to the two older boys because I barely knew Tiffany and I never met Barron,” Mary said, according to OK! Magazine.
Mary linked what she described as Trump’s emotional distance to their family upbringing. She specifically discussed her grandfather, Fred Trump Sr., and his treatment of her father, Fred Trump Jr.
“My grandfather and Donald play a big role in that,” she said.
Mary claimed Trump learned as a child that he should avoid behaving like her father, who was known as Freddy.
“Don’t be kind, empathetic. Don’t be sensitive,” she recalled.
Donald Trump has five children from three marriages. He shares Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump with his first wife, Ivana Trump. He has a daughter, Tiffany Trump, with his second wife, Marla Maples. He also shares Barron Trump with his wife, Melania Trump.
