Adam Brody recently described the situation in Palestine as a genocide and called for a free Palestine in a GQ interview. However, Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster has revealed that she disagrees with some of the actor’s views, while emphasizing that differing opinions are acceptable.
Erin Foster responds to Adam Brody’s comments on Palestine and Israel
In an upcoming episode of Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, when asked about Brody’s comments on Israel, Foster described the subject as complicated and compared their workplace discussions to debates happening among people worldwide.
“You know, it’s complicated,” she said. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing.”
Foster, who converted to Judaism before marrying music executive Simon Tikhman, acknowledged their differences while expressing affection for Brody. “While I love Adam, I also disagree with him,” she said. “And that’s okay.” She also explained that she created Nobody Wants This to offer positive representation of Judaism. Foster said she wanted Jewish viewers to feel understood, describing the series as “a love letter to Judaism.”
Reflecting on her experience, she added, “It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish.” She continued, “Being a Jewish person, and sitting here right now at this time in the world where there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.” Nevertheless, Foster stressed that viewers and colleagues can hold different opinions. “That being said, everyone is entitled to a different opinion than me,” she said.
Meanwhile, Brody explained in his GQ interview that he had discussed Palestine privately but had spoken less about it publicly. “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine,” he said. The actor also expressed hope that a future administration would change policies contributing to the situation. He explained that he generally answers political questions when asked, although most interviews focus on his work.
Foster’s full conversation with Hirsch will be released on October 27. Meanwhile, Season 3 of Nobody Wants This is now streaming on Netflix.
