William visited the show to spotlight the Earthshot Prize, which recognises people and projects working to address environmental challenges. Meanwhile, Blanchett serves on the prize’s council, and Irwin works as a global ambassador. Waddingham also has a connection to the initiative, having hosted its ceremony in 2023.
The surprise television appearance came during a busy week for the royal family. On October 20, William and his wife, Kate Middleton, attended a state banquet at Windsor Castle. The event honoured Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq during his first official visit to Britain in 44 years. Following the banquet, the couple shared a new portrait on their joint Instagram account. “Ready for tonight’s State Banquet in Windsor,” they captioned the photograph.
The portrait also introduced a few changes to their usual royal photographs. It featured Frogmore House’s grand staircase and marked the couple’s first black-and-white state banquet portrait. Additionally, they chose photographer Greg Williams, known for his intimate portraits of Hollywood celebrities.
Kate also drew attention with her fashion choices during the diplomatic visit. For the banquet, she wore a sunshine-yellow Elie Saab gown featuring a built-in cape, braided neckline detailing, and a daring keyhole cutout. She completed the look with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara, which Princess Diana also frequently wore.
Earlier that day, Kate chose a green Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coatdress as a nod to Oman’s national flag. William’s surprise appearance brought the Earthshot Prize to a celebrity-focused television audience, highlighting his environmental initiative ahead of the upcoming awards ceremony.
