The official trailer for Tangles starring Seth Rogen and Bryan Cranston has arrived. The highly acclaimed film is heading to the theaters following its Cannes debut earlier this year.
Directed by Leah Nelson, Tangles is an adult animated biographical drama film based on Sarah Leavitt’s graphic novel Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother and Me. Leavitt also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Trev Renney.
The movie had its world premiere at the Special Screenings section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in May. It also received a nomination for the Caméra d’Or and the Queer Palm. The film will be released next month for a qualifying theatrical run. It will have a limited release on January 15, 2027, followed by a nationwide rollout on January 22, 2027.

What happens in the Tangles trailer?
Tangles follows Sarah, a young woman who returns to her hometown to care for her vibrant mother, Midge.
“When Midge is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Sarah discovers that while family is never simple, the ties that bind us — through laughter, heartbreak, and joy — endure even as memories begin to fade,” the official synopsis adds.
The trailer offers a peek into the black-and-white animation of the film. It perfectly captures the bittersweet story of a family navigating an ordeal. The visually striking preview opens with Sarah returning to her hometown from San Francisco. She reunites with her mother, Midge, who is beginning to lose her memories due to Alzheimer’s.
The video stitches a series of poignant moments from the film. Viewers get a taste of the emotional yet uplifting tale the film has in store.
Seth Rogen is a producer on the film alongside his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen. Speaking at the Middleburg Film Festival, Rogen called Tangles an interesting creative endeavor.
“To have the audience go on a journey that emotionally is not what they’re expecting it to be, and to find yourself laughing amid these very sad moments, I also think is really reflective of having lived an experience very much like this, and it truly is the embodiment of sadness and joy, swirling together in unexpected ways,” he said, per Variety.
Tangles features an ensemble voice cast that includes Rogen, Abbi Jacobson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Samira Wiley, Beanie Feldstein, Pamela Adlon, Bowen Yang, and Wanda Sykes, among others.
