Meghan Markle Asked To Forget Her ‘Royal’ Title After UK Return — Expert

A royal expert has urged Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to embrace their non-working royal status following their return to the UK. The advice comes after King Charles issued an official statement reaffirming their position within the royal family.

Shortly after the Sussexes returned to Britain, the King issued a letter through the Lord Chamberlain confirming that they would remain non-working royals. As a result, they cannot undertake official royal engagements or use their royal status to represent the monarchy in an official capacity.

Expert says Meghan Markle should play more into her ‘Hollywood celebrity’ title

Royal expert Nick Ede believes Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s inability to undertake official royal engagements in the UK could ultimately work in their favour. Speaking to Cafe Casino, Ede suggested that Meghan presented a “different woman” during the Sussexes’ recent Nottingham visit compared to the person the public knew before she married into the royal family, according to The News International.

For context, the Sussexes met local supporters and volunteers during their first official visit to Nottingham on October 15. They visited several charitable organisations and interacted with volunteers throughout the day. Notably, Nottingham was also the site of their first royal walkabout following their engagement in 2017, as reported by PEOPLE.

Ede said Meghan displayed glimpses of the charm and confidence that made her popular during her time on “Suits.” According to the royal expert, the Duchess of Sussex does not need the royal family’s approval to win over the public.

Instead, Ede encouraged Meghan to embrace her Hollywood celebrity persona rather than continue seeking validation from the monarchy. He also suggested that the Nottingham visit generated more favourable publicity for Harry and Meghan than her recent meeting with Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai in London.

He said: “I think this was far better than her photo op with Malala which set very contrived. She is a Hollywood celebrity, and she needs to play more into that and forget her title.”

Furthermore, Ede praised the Sussexes for returning to Nottingham, where they received a warm welcome from supporters. He described the move as a “reset” that could help shift public attention away from their past controversies and remind people of their royal connections.

Ede also suggested that Harry and Meghan build on the positive response by maintaining a consistent public presence and working towards a stronger brand image in the media.
