The Euphoria mastermind has jumped ships. Show creator Sam Levinson has decided to switch from HBO Max just a few months after Sydney Sweeney‘s show ended.
According to Deadline, Levinson has signed an overall television deal with Amazon MGM Studios. He will have to develop and produce series for Prime Video and the studio. The pact also includes executive producing services for his Tiny Goat Productions partner and wife, Ashley Levinson.
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios, said, “Sam Levinson is one of the most daring and original voices in television today, with a fearless commitment to authentic storytelling that resonates with audiences around the world. We’re thrilled to welcome Sam and Ashley and to give them the creative freedom and global platform to develop their projects.”
What other shows did Sam Levinson make for HBO besides Euphoria?
Besides Euphoria, Levinson created HBO’s The Idol in 2023. It was a controversial drama he co-created, co-wrote, and directed alongside Abel Tesfaye/The Weeknd and Reza Fahim. The show followed Jocelyn, an aspiring model who resumes her journey to become America’s biggest pop star after a nervous breakdown, before meeting Tedros, the leader of a modern-day cult.
The filmmaker was also credited as an executive producer on HBO’s miniseries Irma Vep. The comedy-drama stars Alicia Vikander as Mira, an American movie star who comes to France to star as Irma Vep in a TV series adaptation of the French silent film serial, Les Vampires. She works alongside Vincent Macaigne as René, the adaptation’s director.
Levinson also contributed as a writer to his father Barry Levinson’s HBO television film, The Wizard of Lies (2017). This one was a biographical television film about Bernie Madoff, an American stockbroker and investment adviser who finds himself in a world of trouble when his fraudulent ways catch up to him.
