Prince Harry has shared the story behind one of his favorite photographs of his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In his new MasterClass, “Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss,” the Duke of Sussex revealed that he personally took the picture. The image shows Archie and Lilibet walking hand in hand through a tidal pool shortly before Archie’s seventh birthday.
“I love this photo. I took this photo,” Harry said. He added that seeing “the two of them, brother and sister, at peace with each other in nature fills my heart.” Meghan Markle previously shared the photograph on Instagram to celebrate Archie’s seventh birthday in May.
Beyond discussing the touching family moment, Harry also reflected on fatherhood. He described becoming a parent as “an emotional rollercoaster” and admitted he never realized how challenging it would be. At the same time, the prince said he would not change the experience for anything. Harry added that he feels grateful to have “two healthy, beautiful, amusing, very funny kids.”
The Duke also revealed a personal rule that helps him balance work and family life. He said he avoids spending more than 10 days away from Meghan and their children, explaining that time with his family brings him joy and keeps him grounded.
Much of the MasterClass focuses on Harry’s experience with grief following the death of Princess Diana. He explained that, for years, he believed staying emotionally numb was a way of honoring his mother’s memory. However, Harry said he eventually realized Diana would have wanted him to be happy. He added that this shift changed his outlook on life and continues to inspire both his family life and charitable work today.
