A new Prime Video TV show will offer a closer look at Princess Diana‘s life through recordings of private conversations. Although excerpts of these recordings have previously surfaced across various platforms, the upcoming documentary will explore the late princess’s world in greater depth.
According to Deadline, Prime Video has acquired the UK and Ireland rights to Diana Unheard, a three-part documentary series from Love Monday TV. It features previously unheard recordings of Princess Diana and will be released under a new title, Diana: Her Secret Confessions.
The series is produced by Love Monday TV’s female-led team. Emily Hirst is the producer, while Kerene Barefield and Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt are executive producers. The three-part documentary aims to reframe the public narrative surrounding Diana nearly three decades after her death.
Princess Diana’s tapes reveal her private reflections on King Charles and the Royal Family
Diana: Her Secret Confessions will feature about five hours of audio that the Princess secretly recorded with her friend James Colthurst in 1991. In the upcoming documentary, audiences will see Diana discuss important moments in her life, from childhood, marriage, and her role as the princess, wife, and mother.
The recordings also capture Diana discussing her marriage to then-Prince Charles and his long-term relationship with Camilla, who later became queen. Diana also spoke about her children, Princes William and Harry, and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, in these recordings. The documentary will also provide audiences with her personal reflections on identity, resilience, and purpose.
Love Monday TV creative director and executive producer Kerene Barefield said, “Diana, Princess of Wales, is often portrayed as a victim of her circumstances, with the narrative around her even today still being written and argued about by powerful men. By centering our series on hours of intimate recordings Diana made herself, Diana: Her Secret Confessions reclaims and reframes her own story, in her own words.”
Barefield added, “Audiences will hear Diana’s voice as never before, showing her not as a passive victim of events, but as a strong woman who is risking everything to take control of her own narrative.”
The series will stream on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland, although a release date has not been announced.
