Obsession Horror Movie Returns to Theaters for New Rerelease, But There’s a Catch

Obsession is getting another theatrical release. Curry Barker’s horror film is returning to the big screen after making a strong impact during its original run. Regal Cinemas will host the special re-release.

There is a catch, however. Obsession will only return to Regal for one night, with the screening presented in 4DX. Regal Movies announced the event on X and encouraged fans to secure their tickets. The special screening will take place on October 14, 2026.

The film first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025, where Focus Features acquired it. It later received a wide theatrical release on May 15, 2026. Barker directed the film, which features Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Andy Richter, Cooper Tomlinson, and Megan Lawless in its cast.

Obsession centers on Bear, who wants to make his crush, Nikki, fall in love with him. He turns to a mysterious One Wish Willow to get what he wants. His wish works, but it soon creates a much darker situation. The supernatural consequences turn Bear’s romantic obsession into a terrifying ordeal.

The film also received strong reviews from critics. Obsession currently has a 93% Tomatometer score and a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, highlighting its positive reception.

How much money did Obsession make at the box office during its theatrical run?

Obsession was a major box-office success during its original theatrical run. The horror film earned almost $17.2 million during its opening weekend in North America. It eventually grossed more than $263 million domestically.

The film also performed strongly overseas, pushing its worldwide total past $520 million. Its theatrical performance was especially notable because Obsession was made on a relatively modest production budget of under $750,000 million.

The film’s impressive box-office run made it one of the year’s biggest horror successes. The upcoming Regal event will give audiences another chance to see the film in theaters, although they will have only one night to catch the special re-release.
