Julio Peña has landed a key role in Amazon MGM Studios‘ upcoming F1-themed romance movie. Peña will now join the previously announced stars, Josh Heuston and Nicole Wallace.
The studio posted an official announcement on X revealing the Spanish actor’s casting in Throttled. The project is being developed for Prime Video and is based on the first book in Lauren Asher’s popular Dirty Air series.
In the clip, Wallace and Heuston appear to have a private conversation before Peña steps between them. “Welcome to the team,” Heuston tells Peña. After shaking his hand, Peña responds, “Thanks! Just stay away from my sister.” Peña then hugs Wallace while Heuston responds, “You bet!”
Per the announcement, Julio Peña will play Santi Alatorre in the upcoming adaptation. The 26-year-old is best known for playing Ares Hidalgo in Netflix’s Through My Window trilogy.
Who is Santi Alatorre?
Santi Alatorre is Maya’s older brother and a professional driver on the racing circuit. However, Santi gets into a tough situation when his sister starts dating his rival teammate.
In the film, Maya, played by Nicole Wallace, joins her brother on the racing circuit before falling for Santi’s teammate and fiercest rival, Noah Slade, played by Josh Heuston. As the story develops, their relationship deepens.
The role gives Peña a key part in the central conflict of Throttled. His character connects the racing world with Maya and Noah’s developing romance.
Melissa Osborne is adapting the novel for the screen, while Nzingha Stewart is attached to direct. Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks are producing Throttled for Brownstone Productions. Ethea Entertainment’s Jennifer Gibgot, Andrew Panay, and Garrett Grant are also producing. Alison Small and author Asher will serve as executive producers.
Throttled joins Amazon MGM Studios’ growing slate of book adaptations, including Off Campus and The Love Hypothesis. The film has no premiere date yet.
