Charles Spencer recently opened up about his one regret regarding Princess Diana’s request after her divorce from King Charles. Spencer’s admission comes amid buzz around his new book about his late sister, Princess Diana. The book also stirred a storm among royal fans after Spencer’s explosive claims about King Charles went viral.
Charles Spencer had a major reason to turn down Princess Diana’s Garden estate request after her divorce
Charles Spencer recently sat down with People to discuss his new book, where he also shared why he refused a key request from Princess Diana.
Spencer recalled how Diana reached out to ask for the Garden House on the Althorp estate after her divorce from the then-Prince Charles. However, the 9th Earl Spencer said the public took his refusal “totally wrongly.” He said, “When she was divorced, she did ask me for the Garden House at the back of the park.” Spencer said the main reason he did not grant Diana the house was security concerns.
He added, “The local police went around there with me, and they said they just couldn’t protect William and Harry. She could not have lived at the Garden House. It was not a viable option.”
Spencer also said Diana was very fond of the house because their sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, had lived there with her children. In 2016, speaking to the BBC, he said he offered Diana alternatives, including Wormleighton Manor. But the late Princess ultimately decided to stay at Kensington Palace.
Spencer’s book has immediately become a hot topic since its release, after the claims he made in it. One of the major revelations Spencer made was that after Diana’s death, Charles had allegedly told him over a heated phone call that the Princess would be forgotten soon. Following this, the Palace also released a statement denying the claims.
