Donald Trump’s latest trip to North Carolina brought renewed attention to his bruised hands. The mark appeared as the president arrived for a campaign event, but this time it showed up in a different place and looked different from earlier bruising.
Donald Trump’s bruised hand spotted again during latest appearance in North Carolina
Trump gripped the railing while walking down Air Force One’s stairs at Charlotte International Airport on Wednesday. The Daily Beast reported that the discoloration appeared on his left hand, rather than the right hand that has repeatedly drawn attention in previous appearances.
The publication described the latest marks as mottled, with purple and blue patches appearing in several shapes and sizes. Makeup was also seen on Trump’s right hand while he spoke with reporters near the aircraft. Earlier reports have documented makeup covering bruising on his right hand.
The White House previously attributed Trump’s recurring right-hand bruising to frequent handshaking and aspirin use. In a 2025 statement, spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the marks resulted from “minor soft tissue irritation” associated with handshaking and aspirin taken as part of a cardiovascular prevention regimen (via The Daily Beast).
Trump’s appearance in Gastonia brought the hand into focus as he campaigned for Republican Senate hopeful Michael Whatley. The race pits Whatley against former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper. Trump used the rally to attack Cooper on crime, labeling him a “murderer protector,” while casting Whatley as the “law-and-order candidate.”
The same week also saw Mitch McConnell make his first Capitol appearance in three months. The Senate Minority Leader arrived in a wheelchair with noticeable dark marks on both hands. McConnell described his recovery as “long and often frustrating,” pointing to lasting effects from childhood polio.
The White House has yet to comment on Trump’s latest hand markings.
