A royal expert has labelled Prince Harry a “ventriloquist dummy” in his relationship with Meghan Markle. The Sussexes’ image has not been the best since their exit as working royals and relocation to the US. Not to mention their interview with Oprah Winfrey and Harry’s book, “Spare.” Now that they have returned to the UK, royal commentators are not holding back on the criticism.
Meghan Markle has had a ‘negative effect’ on Prince Harry, claims expert
In an episode of Jeremy Vine & Daytime on 5 (via X), host Alexis Conran asked royal expert Dickie Arbiter whether Meghan Markle has had a negative or positive impact on Prince Harry. Arbiter replied, “I think she’s had a negative effect on Harry. Harry has been, dare I say, the ventriloquist dummy in just moving to the States, getting on a flight to Canada, first of all, and then going to America.”
“When he left the UK, he said he was on a freedom flight. Getting away from the media, getting away. They wanted privacy. They wanted to be emotionally independent,” he added. Arbiter was a former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II. Earlier this month, he also reflected on Prince Harry’s chances of becoming a working royal again.
During a chat with the Express, Arbiter said, “Harry burnt his bridges. Not so much when he left the Royal Family, but what he did in the intervening time, talking to Oprah, rubbishing the Royal Family, rubbishing the British people, rubbishing the country. That’s [returning as a working royal] not an option. And the King is adamant he’s got to stick to what his mother said. There’s no half in, it’s in or out. You’ve chosen out, out it is going to remain.”
Two days after the publication of this feature by the Express, King Charles III sent a letter that confirmed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s position as non-working royals. The letter also stated that they were “private citizens,” which the Sussexes allegedly took issue with.
