Tessa Kaepernick wanted her son Colin Kaepernick to ask Taylor Swift out when he was playing in the NFL
The former NFL player Colin Kaepernick published his memoir, The Perilous Fight, on Tuesday. He revealed in his memoir that his mother, Tessa Kaepernick, wanted him to ask Taylor Swift out during his NFL career.
Kaepernick wrote, “When I was in the NFL, she told me that I should ask out Taylor Swift (long before Travis Kelce made his move) because we would be perfect together.”
However, Kaepernick said he did not ask her out because Taylor was not his type. He clarified that it was not a “slight” against her.
According to Page Six, Kaepernick played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2016. Before he left the NFL, he welcomed a baby in 2022 with radio show host Nessa Diab.
Diab revealed in August 2025 that the couple got married “years ago.”
He wrote that his mom’s comments about Swift made him feel that she was not “capable of seeing who [he] really,” is.
While sharing another incident, he recalled his mother convincing him to ask a classmate for a school dance.
Kaepernick also wrote about his NFL journey and the 2016 controversy surrounding his decision to kneel during the national anthem to protest against racial injustice. After the 2016 season, he was not signed as a free agent. He filed a grievance against the NFL that reached a settlement in 2019.
Taylor Swift got married to NFL player Travis Kelce in July 2026. The two got engaged in 2025 and had been in a relationship since 2023.
